Interesting, but...I'm not quite sure what the scandal is. The record is definitely a highly synthetic product--the vocals are cut up and jumbled around and don't follow a verse-chorus-verse structure. So it is no great surprise to me to learn that it comes out of old studio tapes. But Kool Keith has always been about releasing shitloads of scattershot stuff, and anymore the main reason to buy any Kool Keith record is to enjoy the utter weirdness of his stream-of-consciousness flow--something The Return of Dr. Octagon definitely delivers.
I love the article's interview with Keith, though, and his discussion of his new album, named "Return of the Gorillas. ... No, my new album is Gorilla Zone. ... No, Land of the Baboons. ... No, it's called Voice of the Baboons."
And obviously if Keith is getting fucked out of royalties that is not cool at all, and he should sue until he gets paid... But short of that, what's the big deal?
