Here's the idea: tell the subservient chicken to pee. Then realize your craving for a hot, juicy chicken whopper. This subservient chicken idea is strangely reminiscent of the god-awful Quizno Sub Spongemonkeys.

Is this subservient chicken supposed to be the spokes-model for Burger King for something? If he is then let me just say he is the most unappetizing thing I have ever seen in any advertisement.

The real question is, what does the subservient chicken have to say?

Saw Mirah last night at the Nottingham Co-Op (never been in a co-op before- definitely a bizarro frat). Though the lights could have been turned up a bit so I could actually see her, it was awesome- her voice is so purdy. She was so tiny and her guitar was so big it was almost comical.

CONGRATS, NICOLE! that rocks - i fully expect you to keep me up to date on the hip-happenings of the chicago music scene...oh, and you should still visit me in portland...

Now that I'm not stricken with disappointment, I'll actually share what the internship is. It's with this company, Billions, a booking agency with clients like the New Pornographers, Destroyer, Califone, Liars, and so many more wonderful bands. Just look at that roster. It's unpaid, 2 days a week, but I get access to lots of free music and get into all the shows they book in Chicago for free! And it could potentially lead to real employment some day. I start in May!

Let's all remember that "I might not pass school this semester" in Becky-speak really means "I'm going to get the highest grades in my classes." Just like "no one is ever going to hire me this summer" really means "I'm going to get a cool internship in Alaska or Europe."

If you were to limit attendance, however, I'd recommend coming at 2:45 for the Heavenly States or just going to Party in the Dark at the terrace at 9.

Let's not forget about the killer song we heard on the car ride home, Rockey. You've all heard of Danger Mouse's combination of Jay-Z's Black Album and the Beatles' White Album to form the Grey Album? Well last night we heard a song by "Fitty Inch Nails." It was 50 Cent's "In Da Club" mixed with Nine Inch Nails' "Closer." I hate In Da Club, but good Lord, that mix was cool. It strangely worked really, really well.

The Perfect Face for Radio will be continuing on through the summer and will showcase a brand-new segment entitled: "The Perfect Face for Radio Adventure Story Hour."

The busiest weekend on the face of the earth along with the most gas used in a 72 hour period continues tonight with the Rapture in Milwaukee! If I don't get to dance tonight, I'll be so mad.

John Vanderslice rocked the Catacombs last night and managed to play every single song I'd wanted to hear (that's like, 8 of them mind you), and is clearly the nicest man on the face of the planet. Like, seriously, the nicest.

Today I opened up this week's Isthmus and saw the great picture of the Driftless Pony Club. Just yesterday, I was disappointed, because I accidently shattered the glass I got at the Klinic on Valentine's Day in the sink. Sure enough, the Klinic is where the Driftless Pony Club will be playing tonight at 10. Fluky.

wow...you should either reply to her email. or better yet, reply something nasty and try to "recall" the email. OR better yet, pretend nothing happened, move in and make her life hell...

Ok, so how incredibly funny is this? I'm looking for sublets in Chicago at the moment, and a girl emailed me saying she and her roommate had an extra room and wondered if I was interested. So I emailed back and said yes, I'd be interested. She replied and said she was out of town, but to email her and her roommate a little about myself and see if the roommate could set up a time to show me the place. So I sent a brief blurb about myself to both of them- literally like, three sentences. The roommate mistakenly replied to me: "I don't like her" instead of to the roommate! Then I got an email from her that said "this email has been recalled", like she realized her mistake and tried to recall the message, as if you could do that!

There is a really great interview with Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock in the Onion today, also found here. I knew about the date rape allegations and the drug use, but not the attempted murder charges. What an interesting person. I think the new album is great, and after reading this interview, you can really see where it came from and why exactly it's called "Good News for People Who Love Bad News."

Natural History/Long Winters show last night was great, thanks to everyone who came out in spite of the Wisconsin Film Festival. The Long Winters were absolutely hysterical and the Natural History played a lot of new stuff that I liked a lot. Afterwards we took the Natural History to "Graham Jam 2004" for a house party, after which they crashed on Becky's and my respective couches. I'll have pictures of the show as well as a review up today.

I finally used my B-Side Records gift certificate to buy the new Iron and Wine album, "Our Endless Numbered Days." It's definitely much more produced than his first album (The Creek Drank the Cradle"), but still absolutely beautiful.

In non-music news, I gave my students an absolutely brutal quiz today. I took a break from the band names, this time the company names consisted of people I've once dated. HA! Ha ha! Ha. ha. Eh.

I had my bag at Paul's Club after the radio show on Saturday night since going home was completely out of the question given the fab company of the evening. My limited memory of my actions post-Paul's Club worries me that I may be involved in this (http://www.findaudrey.wisc.edu/) and don't have an alibi.

This Ryan Adams interview is hysterical.

Just saw the Starlight Mints w/ Dressy Bessy. Good Lord, did the Starlight Mints ever ROCK. I know I say I love almost every show I see, but seriously, this one was up there. The majority of the set list came from their first CD, which I love, plus the good ones from the second one. They played both my fav songs, Submarine #3 and Popsicle, and had a screen with a projector on in the background with hysterical things running on it the whole time, including muppets singing along. They were just the cutest band. Highly recommended. Dressy Bessy was fun too, the (female) singer was adorable and had that raspy smoker's singing voice and a cute outfit on.

Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind: Wonderful. Within the first minute, it was clear this was my kind of movie (anyone who knows me will know why upon Jim Carrey's first sentence). Highly recommended!

I just burned the new Franz Ferdinand cd from the station after seeing them in LA last week. The CD rocks, so it's up on the recommended listening page.

Tuesday night: Saw a pre-screening of an upcoming comedy called "Taxi," where Queen Latifah is a sassy taxi driver and Jimmy Fallon is an awful cop who team up to catch a team of hot Portuguese model bank robbers led by Gisele Bundchen. The editing wasn't yet complete, so we could often tell when the actors were in front of a blue screen, which was amusing. Then filled out questionnaires about what we thought of the movie. It was pretty funny, though sometimes cheesy and I hated the whole model/robber thing.

Apparently, it's about the lead singer of the French Kicks.

-What's the fasting growing beer in sales right now? It's a beer that hasn't be advertised for 20 years . . . it's PBR! Apparently, the underground hipster movement embraced this beer because of the fact it wasn't being marketed. Kid Rock approached Miller to see if he could become a spokesperson for the beer, and they turned him down because they didn't want it to lose that "anti-establishment" feel that made it suddenly so popular. See what fun things you can learn in marketing?

-All Campus Party headliner has finally been chosen and it is: Better than Ezra. The ACP people totally shafted the Music Committee, who voted overwhelmingly for the Violent Femmes. Jerkoffs.

Last night a small crew of Emmie writers and I scoured the bars for the best and worst jukeboxes in downtown Madison. The crazy night included blasting MC Hammer and NKOTB in a totally empty Bullfeathers. Church Key and Pauls were above and beyond all others. Look for the article to appear in the last Emmie of the semester!

By the way, webcasting passed last night. However, it was only passed to allow IP addresses for the dorms. HOWEVER, we were given special "backdoor" webaddresses to give to our friends and family. I won't post them here, but let me know and I'll send it to you so you can officially hear me!

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs show w/ SSION was INSANE. There is no better word to describe both Karen O and SSION in general. Karen O clearly has no control over her body parts, and a bunch of roadies had to keep running around to clean up after her spitting, spilling, and knocking stuff over. SSION came out as a girl in a chicken costume, a girl in some sort of lion costume, and a dude in a very effeminate cow costume with an appropriately placed udder and hotpants. They played no instruments, danced around like freaks on stage as a bunch of crazy video clips played in tune to the music. Totally wild. I'll probably write a more in-depth show review over the weekend, but I don't think I'll be able to capture the craziness.

Maggie: the first song that needs to go on your new IPod is: The Rat, by the Walkmen. That song totally rules.

I've transcribed the Single Frame interview and will post it soon on the reviews/interviews page in mostly uncensored form. A condensed version will appear in the final Emmie issue of the year in early May. Speaking of the Emmie, the next issue should be out shortly with my tinymixtapes article.

The new Sondre Lechre album, Two Way Monologue, is nice. I just reviewed it yesterday at the Station.

In other news, I had my first ballroom dance evaluation today. I did the fox trot. As only my instructor could put it:

"That was good but I think you were kicking your legs out way too much which made it a little jerky"

Speaking of seductive dancing, it's my birthday on Wednesday. It will probably be a boring, monotonous, complete disaster without any skinny dipping, street wrestling, or attractive, single men from Demmark. You might as well go to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the Barrymore if you want any sort of arousal. I just wish I was dead. In case you couldn't tell, I was being sarcastic. Boo-yah!

Last night's Single Frame show went extremely well. They sounded absolutely amazing, and the crowd was good. Then we got to take the band out to the Pub for a drink and then to Brats this morning for some greasy, Wisconsin bar food. Thanks so much to everyone who came, even if it might not have been your "thing"! The next band I booked is the Natural History (similar sound to Spoon) on Friday, April 2. Mark your calendars!

I've listened carefully to about the first half of the new Modest Mouse album, and I must say so far I am pleased. It's no Moon and Antartica, but it is really good. Lighthearted and fun, a little different than the older stuff but not so far off.

In other Modest Mouse news, I gave my students a handout today that said "Modest Mouse Company" on it, and these two students in the back just laughed their asses off at the name. They just don't understand :( . However, when I told them it was a band name, like all the other names I'd been using for their problems, one guy said "oh yeah, I noticed that with Built to Spill Audio the other day." BLESS HIM.

News by me up on tinymixtapes!

I have been presented with a bootleg of the upcoming Modest Mouse album, Good News for People Who Like Band News. I a little nervous about it, because their last album, The Moon and Antarctica is clearly one of the best albums ever made, or at least in the past 10 years, and that's hard to live up to in my mind.

Looks like due to the grand success of the Anniversary Party on Sunday (WINNERS: Urizen and the Orin Project), Andrew WK is probably a go for Party in the Park! The DPC was also booked due to popular demand.

Wow! New York was great. I have a lot to report, but I'll save it for the show.

Sorry Nicole, I'm going to a professional wrestling exhibition in Waukesha this Friday so I can't make it to the Catacombs. Though, I will definitely be coming with you on Saturday to the Single Frame Show (as should everyone else).

I just saw the Sex and the City finale. I didn't like it at all. First of all, Carrie needs to end up alone. That's just the way it is supposed to be. Second of all, Mr. Big's name is John? How lame, we never should have known his name. Unless it was Cosmo or something. It was too much happily ever after bullshit where everyone ends up with the man of their dreams- what the hell is that? Too many cliches and none of what made the show so great in the first place.

Anyway, enough of my rant about that. I just got free tickets to the Mountain Goats at the Catacombs this Friday through Becky. Anyone else want to go with me?
